Mysticism Journey
Original post published at Mystical Direction.
My journey into mysticism started when I noticed a thread of wisdom that remained constant through the world religions I studied in college. That message?
There is a Path to God/Divine.
You can start on that Path anytime.
In fact, you’re already on it.
Many have tread on it before you.
Their teachings and experiences are there to guide you.
You, and only you, can do the walking.
There are indeed bumps, logs, fallen branches, and potholes in the road.
But God/Divine won’t give up on you.
You’ll eventually enter into union with God/Divine.
Hidden beneath the rituals, sacraments, teachings, and theologies/philosophies of religion lies our true purpose: to be one with God/Divine. It is here that our soul yearns to abide. In the depths of our Being is the Mansion with many rooms; the Ground of All Being; the Temple and Holy of Holies; the Throne of God.
I have only glimpsed inside of this room. On few occasions have I received the grace from God to witness and experience God’s immeasurable Love for me—for all of God’s creation. But in order to get to these moments of revelation, prayer and guidance is needed.
The guidance I received came in many forms. From the prior of a catholic monastery to random strangers, from professors and mentors to friends and colleagues, the wisdom I gained (and continue to receive) from these spiritual guides has been invaluable. Most, if not all, had experienced what I was/am going through. The Dark Nights of the Soul or the moments of intense doubt, as well as the Bliss of Union or the Light filled experiences of creation, fueled my need for someone to walk with me on the mystical path.
And the more I learned about myself and about God, the more I need to share my wisdom with fellow seekers.
I have always imagined myself as a light bearer somewhere atop the Mountain of God. My little hermitage just off the well worn and beaten trail. A candy-cane curved lamp post giving off a dim light stands above a sign saying: “Rest for the Weary. Shelter for the Seeker.” It is here that I sit tending a fire, waiting for visitors. It is here that I invite you to join me and let me guide you on your path up the mountain. But I am not the path, nor am I the destination. Only God is both. It is my calling, part of my journey to the top, to walk with you on your journey to God.
Come then, sit and rest with me at this fire, and bask in its eternal warmth.
